a daily sanctuary for mothers

You pour into everyone, all day. Here, someone pours into you.

Some days you're touched out, depleted, and lonelier than you thought you'd be. You're not the only one, and you were never meant to do this alone.

Summers Mothers is built for maternal health. A place to sit with other mothers. Receive care. Regulate your nervous system. Be supported. Be nourished. To love this season not just survive it.

Slow enough to be here.

Motherhood is the slowest work there is, and yet we're always running through it.

You're the one who remembers everything. The appointments, the milestones, the size they've already outgrown, the thing that has to happen tomorrow. You're the default parent, always on call, the one nobody thinks to relieve. For a few hours here, you're not.

When you're filled, fed, rested, held, something loosens. Your shoulders drop. You stop bracing. You're actually here for the giggle, the new sound, the weight of them finally asleep against you.

Because the fear underneath all of it was never that you're a bad mother. It's that one day you won't remember the smell of their hair, because you were too busy, too tired, too far away to breathe them in.

our story

Built from grief, love, and a calling that wouldn't leave.

Leslie Summers holding her granddaughter Summer at sunset

my mother, holding summer

Summers Mothers is named for two women: Summers, my mother's maiden name, and Summer, my daughter. My mother died just before Summer's first birthday, barely a year after she was born. The deepest love and the deepest grief, in the same season. My mom told me often that her only real regret was not staying home with us when we were small. She wanted to. She didn't feel like she could.

This sanctuary is, in part, my answer to her. A place so that staying close to your children isn't an isolated sentence, so that the next generation of women can choose presence and have the village they need to do it.
